CANAL and RIVER TRUST

Community Engagement Team

Bookings with the Baldwin Trust

Early in 2016 the Canal and River Trust booked both St Clare and Dandelion for a group outing. Their community engagement team was trying to broaden interest in the use of the waterways by groups who did not traditionally do so.

The original booking was made by a team based in the central shires region. Because the river trust re-organised their regions by the time the trip was made in August it was a team from the East Midlands region based in Newark who became involved.

They had arranged for a Somali families group to have a trip with us. Both boats were used and the split group swapped over at Mountsorrel.

In order to promote their work they had arranged for the BBC East Midlands Today programme to attend and film the event. Amy Harris was the journalist who attended and recorded the outing. She was kept very busy filming both from the bank and onboard Dandelion. Her film was transmitted on the evening news broadcast on 15th August 2016.
